Review: Brighton & Hove breakfast with Cllr Bella Sankey

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.

Attendees from Berkeley Group, LandsecU+I, Hyde Housing and St Congar among others all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included the benefits of a majority Labour administration after 20 years of NOC, effective placemaking, and transparency in the planning sector to combat distrust from local communities.

Cllr Sankey gave an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in Brighton & Hove and led a robust discussion on Brighton & Hove’s need for affordable housing and how this can be attained. Cllr Sankey also discussed the issue of Purpose-Built Student Accommodation in Brighton and how the council can identify redundant and obsolete buildings for redevelopment.

Our thanks to Cllr Sankey and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. Our next online event is with Cllr Evans, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Uttlesford Council, on Wednesday 15th May.
