Review: Oxford breakfast with Cllr Louise Upton

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Louise Upton, Cabinet Member for Planning on Oxford City Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable on Thursday 6 June.

Cllr Upton gave our attendees an overview of the challenges and opportunities facing Oxford in the coming years, following the recent submission of the council’s new Local Plan to the Secretary of State.  These include:

  • The ongoing need to provide new homes for the city in the surrounding Oxfordshire districts
  • The imperative to address climate change with ambitious measures on green infrastructure and zero carbon new buildings
  • The prioritisation of social housing within the affordable housing mix
  • The desire to improve public transport in the city with the reopening of the Cowley Branch Line to passengers.

Attendees included representatives from Vistry Group, Berkeley Group, Savills, Lichfields and CBRE, and all contributed to a thoughtful discussion on the future of planning and development in the City of Dreaming Spires.  Our thanks to Cllr Upton and all our guests.

Our next event is with Cllr Margaret Cooksey, Portfolio Holder for Planning on Mole Valley District Council on Tuesday 18th June – if you would like to attend, please email Edward Poynton at edward@spbroadway.com.
