Review: Uttlesford breakfast with Cllr John Evans

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr John Evans, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Uttlesford District, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.

Attendees from Vistry Group, Bellway Homes, Godwin Group and Hallam Land among others all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included Stansted Airport, garden cities and the need to engage with the community at a local level and how this can be done effectively, both with parish councils and the residents.

Cllr Evans gave an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in Uttlesford and the current situation as well as the vision of his party, Residents for Uttlesford. He led a robust discussion on the challenges that have come from having an out-of-date Local Plan and how the council aims to tackle these issues. Cllr Evans also covered the constraints the council faces in meeting housing need, including road infrastructure and the number of historical assets in the area. There was also a discussion on the need for developers to be held to commitments such as sports provision.

Our thanks to Cllr Evans and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. Our next online event is with Cllr Upton, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Oxford City Council, on Thursday 6th June.
