Review: Virtual Politics of Planning Roundtable with Cllr Liz Leffman

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Liz Leffman, Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, as guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.

Attendees from Berkeley Group, Savills, Nicholas King Homes and Hallam Land among others all contributed to the discussion on planning in the area. Topics included the demands that Oxfordshire faced in dealing with the unmet housing needs of Oxford, the question of whether Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) and traffic filters were working as well as a discussion on the feasibility study regarding a rail link between Oxford, Witney, and Carterton.

Cllr Leffman gave an in-depth overview of the challenges that are faced throughout Oxfordshire, including the unmet housing need in the county and the need for infrastructure to keep up with housing development. This insightful discussion, led by Cllr Leffman, discussed the need to look at what affordable housing means and how to combat the high property prices in Oxfordshire to keep younger people in the country. Cllr Leffman also spoke about proposed railway links across the county including how this infrastructure could assist the region in reaching Net Zero by decreasing traffic.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Cllr Leffman and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. Our next online event is with Cllr Tom Renhard of Bristol City Council, Cabinet Member for Housing Delivery and Homes, on Wednesday 26th July.
