Review: Virtual Politics of Planning Roundtable with Deputy Mayor Jules Pipe

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Deputy Mayor Jules Pipe, Member for Planning, Regeneration, and Skills, London Assembly, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.

Attendees from Empyrean Developments, Marrons, UK Land, Lichfields, Hill Group, and Neat Developments among others all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included population projections and space to accommodate these people, the importance of affordable homes, the need for sustainable growth, and the current challenges regarding stalled building regulation changes such as the second staircase requirements.

Jules gave an in-depth overview of London, noting the need for inclusivity and sustainability to direct growth in the city. There was also a robust discussion on the issue of specialist accommodation such as later living and student accommodation and its place within the London Plan. Jules also discussed Green Belt policy and how they would be open to developments on the Green Belt but any development would need to identify exceptional circumstances for it to go ahead.

Our thanks to Jules and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. Our next online event is with Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst of Herefordshire Council, Cabinet Member for Environment and Portfolio Holder for Planning, on the 21st November.
