SP Broadway were delighted to welcome Cllr Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Hounslow Borough Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.
Attendees from Vistry, Arcadis, and WSP, among others, all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included the Local Plan, London Heathrow Airport, and the proposed £7.5 billion regeneration of the ‘Golden Mile’.
Cllr Bruce gave an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in his area, including updates on the Council’s Corporate Plan, and sites such Feltham’s Ministry of Defence land. Additionally, Cllr Bruce emphasised that Hounslow is ‘open for business’, encouraging continued investment and regeneration in Hounslow, and elaborating on what the Council sees as “good employment”.
There was further discussion about the role of officers in the planning process, as well as the role of the councillors following the upcoming National Scheme of Delegation. Conversations about topics such as the need for pragmatism in the planning process, as well as the need for effective community engagement were also informative for guests.
Our thanks to Cllr Bruce for stepping in for Cllr Rajawat at short notice, and to guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. To ensure you’re among the first to hear about all our upcoming events, sign up to our mail list by visiting the link below:
