Event Review: Swindon Borough Council breakfast with Cllr Jim Robbins

SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.

Attendees from Savills, Hallam Land and Hills, among others, all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included the Council’s housing targets, regeneration of the town centre, and the upcoming local government re-organisation.

Cllr Robbins gave an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in Swindon, including updates on the New Eastern Villages and the emerging Local Plan. Cllr Robbins also highlighted the progress his administration had made in improving the planning system in the borough.

There was further discussion about the Council’s “Heart of Swindon” regeneration scheme, including the council’s aims for the project and their proposals to ensure its viability. Conversations about topics such as planning officer engagement, devolution arrangements with neighbouring councils, and upgrades to transport infrastructure in the area were also informative for guests.

Our thanks to Cllr Robbins and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion. Our next online roundtable will be with Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, on Thursday 10 April 2025.
