Review: Chelmsford breakfast with Cllr Stephen Robinson
SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Stephen Robinson, Leader of Chelmsford City Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.
Attendees included representatives from Hallam Land, Wates, Barratt David Wilson, Croudace and Taylor Wimpey, and all contributed to the discussion, covering topics including the timetable of the Local Plan Review, sustainability in development, and a desperate need for more affordable housing in the city.
Cllr Robinson provided an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in Chelmsford and went into detail on the vision for ‘guiding Chelmsford’s growth towards a greener, fairer and more connected community’, highlighting the importance of community engagement and working with developers to show how new developments can bring benefits to local people. There was a discussion about making Chelmsford better connected, with improved infrastructure like the new Beaulieu Park Station, the North East Bypass and new cycle lanes across the city. There was also a discussion on biodiversity net gain, including the requirement for developers to plant three trees for every new home.
Our thanks to Cllr Robinson and guests for attending and contributing to such an interesting discussion.
