Review: West Berkshire breakfast with Cllr Denise Gaines
SP Broadway was delighted to welcome Cllr Denise Gaines, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Housing, West Berkshire Council, as the guest speaker for our latest online Politics of Planning roundtable.
Attendees from UK Land, Abri, Deanfield Homes, Savills, and Shorewood Homes among others all contributed to the discussion. Topics covered included the need for smaller sites in vibrant villages, the challenges of a large AONB, and the need for a collaborative relationship between the council and developers.
Cllr Gaines gave an in-depth overview of the planning landscape in West Berkshire. She covered the next steps of the Local Plan following the submission of four additional sites to the Inspector. Cllr Gaines led a discussion on vibrant villages, the scope for delivering a new town in the district, and government funding for nutrient neutrality to tackle the issue of stalled developments due to neutrality rules.
